Free Videos

Below are the free videos that supplement The Pain-Free Massage Therapist Paperback. For organizational purposes, the instructional videos below are arranged according to chapters in the book. If you just need a specific strategy or technique to help you with one particular issue, by all means, jump to the videos in that chapter. But if you do jump, please circle back to the beginning–Chapter 1: Lean–because leaning is important and applicable to almost every body-saving technique I show you. Also, I have put links to articles that I have written about body mechanics and massage tools at the bottom of the page. You are on your way to massaging pain free!

Table of Contents

Chapter 1: Lean

In the above video, I am showing you how to lean on high table using your forearm. Your force will come from your body weight (lean) and from driving from your back leg.
Below is leaning on a low table table with fists and forearms. Your force is primarily coming from your body weight (lean). It may feel awkward at first, but less once you use the table to support your body weight.

Chapter 2: Use the Table for Support and to Regulate Pressure

The trick to saving your back when leaning on a low table is to use the table to support your body weight. The table also helps you regulate pressure. Lean more into the table for lighter pressure. Lean more into the person on the table for firmer pressure.

Chapter 3: Short Stroke Massage

The key to not putting your shoulders at risk when doing massage is to keep your work in front of you so that you don’t overextend your shoulder joint. If you do a short stroke and take small steps as you glide, you’ll keep your shoulders, elbows and wrists stacked.

Chapter 4: Pain-Free Hands and Wrists

Use one body part too many times and it will get angry at you. Mix up how you apply pressure by doing combination hand techniques to exert pressure and your hands and wrists will love you.

Chapter 5: Massage Tools

Massage tools seem intimidating, but once you learn how to hold them without gripping, your massage life will dramatically change. Massage therapists that I have trained often call massage tools a “game changer” once they get the hang of them.

Chapter 6: Pain-Free Shoulders and Arms

When you lean and stack your arm joints to deliver force, you take the strain out of your shoulders. Another trick to helping your shoulders is to rest your forearm on your knee when doing neck work.

Chapter 7: Pain-Free Neck and Back

Necks and backs can get trashed in massage if you are massaging the same way all the time. Take back and neck breaks during the massage without interrupting the massage by trying some of these techniques in the video above.
In addition, you can actually stretch your back during a massage while still doing excellent focused pressure work. In the video below, I show you one of my favorite back stretches.
